James Mullins

He was born in Bedford County, Tennessee on September 15, 1807. He completed preparatory studies and apprenticed to the millwright's trade. He was a colonel of the state militia in 1831. From 1840 to 1846, he was the sheriff of Bedford County. He was compelled to flee his home in 1862 on account of his loyalty to the Union. During the Civil War, he served in the Union Army from 1862 to 1864.

After the War, Mullins was a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives from 1865 to 1867. He was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress. He served from March 4, 1867 to March 3, 1869.

He died in Shelbyville, Tennessee in Bedford County on June 26, 1873, and was interred in the Arnold Graveyard, about nine miles northeast of Shelbyville.
