James P. Mullins "James Mullins (September 15 ,1807 –June 26 ,1873 ) was an American politician and a member of theUnited States House of Representatives for the 4th congressional district ofTennessee .He was born in
Bedford County, Tennessee onSeptember 15 ,1807 . He completed preparatory studies and apprenticed to themillwright 's trade. He was acolonel of the state militia in 1831. From 1840 to 1846, he was the sheriff of Bedford County. He was compelled to flee his home in 1862 on account of his loyalty to the Union. During the Civil War, he served in theUnion Army from 1862 to 1864.After the War, Mullins was a member of the
Tennessee House of Representatives from 1865 to 1867. He was elected as a Republican to the Fortieth Congress. He served fromMarch 4 ,1867 toMarch 3 ,1869 .He died in
Shelbyville, Tennessee in Bedford County onJune 26 ,1873 , and was interred in the Arnold Graveyard, about nine miles northeast of Shelbyville.References
