chemical compound with the formula Re2O7. It is theanhydride of the hypothetical acid (HOReO3).Perrhenic acid , Re2O7· 2H2O, however is closely related structurally to Re2O7. Solid Re2O7 is polymeric consisting, unusually, of the metal centers in two coordination environments - octahedral and tetrahedral. Gaseous Re2O7 is however molecular, consisting of a pair of ReO4 tetrahedra that share a corner. [Wells, A.F. (1984) Structural Inorganic Chemistry, Oxford: Clarendon Press. ISBN 0-19-855370-6.]Re2O7 is a precursor to methyl rhenium trioxide ("MTO"), a catalyst for oxidations. [cite journal | author = W. A. Herrmann and F. E.
