"Avalon" was a webcomic by Josh Phillips set in the fictional city of Avalon, Ontario, Canada. It focused on a group of high school students, and while it was originally gag-a-day, it evolved into a coherent, long-term story with realistic characters. The comic launched on 1999-11-08 and was originally scheduled to end in August 2002.cite web| title=About "Avalon" | url=http://www.avalonhigh.com/about/ |last=Phillips |first=Josh |authorlink=Josh Phillips |accessdate=2006-04-06 It mentions the original target date for the comic's conclusion.]

After a series of lengthening delays, Phillips eventually placed the comic on indefinite hiatus on 2004-08-24 and posted a text summary of the how the story would have played out, including the revelation that one of the heretofore heterosexual characters would suddenly and without explanation decide to enter a lesbian affair.cite web |title=Text summary of "Avalon's" planned conclusion |url=http://www.avalonhigh.com/w/20040824.html |last=Phillips |first=Josh |authorlink=Josh Phillips |accessdate=2006-04-06] . Phillips announced that, having recently been married, he had "outgrown" "Avalon" and cartooning in general, and had no further need to continue the project.

"Avalon" is a member of Keenspot.

Post-Hiatus

After an extended period of hiatus, Phillips mentioned that he was debating farming out the art and writing to fellow webcartoonist, David Willis, so that his dedicated fan-base could receive resolution of the story-line.Verify source|date=July 2007

No new Avalon comics were produced until 2006-01-24, when Phillips posted a new strip, and stated his intention to finish the series. Only seven new strips were produced, the last of which was released on February 28, 2006. As of May 2006, no new strips have been released, and no explanation has been given. On February 15th, 2007, Phillips posted a text summary of the [http://www.avalonhigh.com/d/20070215.html storyline's conclusion] .

The author has since said that he finds the comic and its fanbase embarrassing, dismissing the possibility of a revival.Verify source|date=July 2007
