History

*1889-04-01 - The modern municipality system is established. The area consists of two villages: Nakato and Sumiyoshi.
*1954-04-01 - Nakato and Sumiyoshi merge to form Yamauchi Village.
*1955-03-01 - Part of Takeuchi Town is incorporated into Yamauchi Village.
*1960-09-01 - Yamauchi Village becomes Yamauchi Town (Yamauchi-Machi)
