Medan , Indonesia. They are now playing in Djarum Indonesian Super-League.Although founded in
April 21 ,1950 , the origin of PSMS can be traced back to 1930 when there was a football club from Medan, i.e. "Medansche Voetbalclub". Thetobacco ofDeli is chosen as the logo of the team as the base of the team, the city in the Province of North Sumatra, is famous for its plantation of this kind of tobacco.Because the Football Association of Indonesia wants to introduce professionalism to the highest division of Indonesian football competition from the beginning of Djarum Indonesian Super-League onwards, PSMS have to relocate to
Gelora Bung Karno Stadium inJakarta sinceTeladan Stadium in Medan does not fulfill the criteria of professionalism which were created by the national football association. In the beginning this problem sparked a clash between the new owner of the club, i.e.Sihar Sitorus , and the current board. This problem was finally solved when Sihar agreed to compensate the club about €180,000 to renovate Teladan.The supporters of PSMS are known as "Kesatuan Anak Medan Pecinta Ayam Kinantan Fans Club" ("Unity of Children of Medan - Supporters of "Ayam Kinantan" Fans Club") or simply as KAMPAK FC.
