European Medical Writers Association

The European Medical Writers Association (EMWA) was founded in 1989 as a professional organisation for European medical writers, whether working freelance or in-house at pharmaceutical companies or medical communications companies. Its head office is in Zug, Switzerland.

Since 1999, EMWA has offered an accreditation scheme, the EMWA Professional Development Programme (now available at foundation and advanced levels), through participation in training seminars held at its spring and autumn conferences. It also publishes a journal, "The Write Stuff", four times a year.

As of 2007, the society has over 715 members drawn from 24 countries.
