New Faces (Australian)

"New Faces" was an Australian version of the British show of the same name. The first incarnation of the show was produced during the 1970s, experiencing the transition Australian television went from black and white to colour. Many of its contestants later became famous, including Daryl Somers and Col Elliott. Like many talent shows, the contestants on the show were forced to perform in front of three judges, who would offer criticism. The 'third judge' was Bernard King, who played the same role that Simon Cowell plays in "American Idol". Bernard King remains the highest paid entertainer in Australian history (when adjusted for inflation).

Later, an early 1990s revival of the show was hosted by Bert Newton.
