Andrew Fois Andy is presently an independent legal/government affairs/ public relations consultant. His recent clients have included a media company, a civil rights organization, a major software company,and the banking industry. He is a political columnist for The Georgetowner and The Downtowner newspapers - local bi-weekly D.C. papers. He holds the position of Senior Fellow at
Globalsecurity.org , anational security , web-basedthink tank . He previously served as the Staff Director of the Senate Democratic Communications Center. He was appointed to the position bythe Minority Leader Senator Harry Reid in February, 2006. Mr. Fois frequently appears on television and radio as a political and legal analyst. He has appeared on MSNBC, Bloomberg, ABC, NBC, CBS, Court TV, several other cable networks and several Congressional broadcasts. His radio appearances have included, Al Franken, the Young Turks, Victoria Jones and local radio all across the country. In addition, he was a regular guest on the Bill Press Show and the Rachel Maddow Show. He has served as a contributor to the Fox News Channel. He has written and spoken extensively on legal, political, public policy and government and media relations. Prior positions include law partner in the D.C. firmVenable LLP , Chief Counsel to the Subcommittee on Crime and Criminal Justice of theUnited States House of Representatives ' Judiciary Committee (working for now Senator Charles Schumer) (1989-1992), and as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia during which he tried dozens of jury trials (both criminal and civil), hundreds of other criminal cases and hearings, wrote appellate briefs and argued before courts of appeal. He also served as the youngest supervisor in the office as Deputy Chief of the Misdemeanor Division. He was nominated by President Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legislative Affairs in the [Department of Justice] (1985-1989. He was a legal adviser to the Clinton campaign in 1992 and the Gore Campaign in 2000. He was a surrogate spokesman for the Kerry campaign in 2004. Early in his career Andy was as Assistant State Attorney inMiami-Dade County, Florida (1983-1984), and member of the legislative staff of U.S. SenatorGary Hart . He has taught Trial Practice at the Georgetown University Law Center and Legal Methods at the Washington College of Law at American University. He will be teaching Constitutional Criminal Procedure at Georgetown in the fall of 2008. He was chairman of the D.C. Coalition Against Drugs and Violence, a D.C. anti-drug community group. He has been a Wasserstein Fellow at Harvard University. He was recommended twice and nominated once by President Clinton for a seat on the D.C. Superior Court. He has been recognized by several professional awards including the Edmund Randolph Award, the Justice Department's highest honor for distinctive contribution. He is a member of the bar in Washington, D.C., New York and Florida as well as the U.S. District, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court bars. He graduated fromGeorgetown University Law Center in 1983 and Georgetown University in 1979 cum laude. He holds a Master's Degree from the University of Essex, UK in American Government and Politics.
