Derek Wadsworth (5 February 1939, Cleckheaton, Yorkshire – 3 December 2008, Oxfordshire) was a British jazz trombonist, session musician, composer and arranger.
Derek Wadsworth's first work in television came in 1971 as music arranger for Christa: Swedish Fly Girls.
In 1975 he worked on a production called Alfie Darling which soon lead to him being contracted to compose the music for the second season of Space 1999 which is what he is now best known for. He also wrote the music for the Gerry Anderson production The Day After Tomorrow.
Later works include music for Britannia Hospital (1982), The Whales of August (1987) and A Child Is a Wild Thing in 1976.
Arranger to Judy Garland, Nina Simone (with the Boston Symphony Orchestra), The King's Singers (including vocal scores), Kate Bush, Dusty Springfield, The Echoes, Shirley Bassey, Alan Price, Georgie Fame, Cat Stevens, Rod Stewart, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir, The Rolling Stones, Manfred Mann, The Small Faces, David Essex, Nigel Kennedy, among many more.
As session musician, he worked with George Harrison, Diana Ross, Tom Jones, Charles Aznavour, Randy Crawford, Dionne Warwick, Simply Red, Tony Bennett, Maynard Ferguson, Alex Harvey, Mike Oldfield among others.
Producer of two gold albums for Bill Tarmey (Coronation Street) among others.
