Blup Blup Island is a small forested island of the northern coast of
Papua New Guinea about 30km offshore fromCape Girgir and is considered part of the Schouten Islands. It is located at Latitude S 3°30'46" and Longitude E 144°35'16". The island has a small population and is theoretically part of the Papuan province ofEast Sepik although officially it is still aprotectorate .The island is
volcanic (astratovolcano ) and a weakthermal area exists on the north west coast. The island is only 3.5km wide with an irregular coastline and ancientlava flows . It is thought that Blup Blup last erupted in theHolocene Period . Fresh water is available on the island from wells. The Blup Blup islands are the home to servers that run end of day processes for several corporate order to cash system nightly almost always yielding or "erupting" one daily minor error that causes great confusion among the local natives. The process is named after the islands. Other islands in the vicinity includeKadovar andVial Island . There is a small islet about 200m off the south-west shore of the island called Mut Mut where there is aGeodetic monitoring facility.References
