TransPAC2

TransPAC2

The TransPAC2 Network is a National Science Foundation-funded high-speed international circuit connecting research and education networks in the Asia-Pacific region to those in the US. It is the 5-year continuation of the TransPAC project. TransPAC2 is part of the NSF’s International Research Network Connections (IRNC) program.

TransPAC2's Network Operations Center is located in the Informatics and Communications Technology Complex in Indianapolis, IN on the IUPUI campus. The NOC operates 24/7 under the supervision of the Global Research NOC at IUPUI.

Network Topology

The TransPAC2 network is currently engineered as a single OC-192 circuit provided by KDDI America. It connects to the APAN network in Tokyo and to a TransPAC2-managed router in Los Angeles. The Los Angeles router, run in the TransPAC2 AS (22388), maintains a 10GigE connection to the CENIC managed Pacific Wave ethernet switch. This connection enables direct peering with the Internet2 Abilene Network, National LambdaRail and other high speed networks on the west coast.

Acceptable Use

The TransPAC2 network is currently limited to the networks carried by other Research and Education network aggregators. In the Pacific region, this list includes APAN, TEIN2, and AARNet. In North America, the primary connection is via the Internet2 Abilene network, though TransPAC2 peers with other R&E networks at the Pacific Wave Exchange Point.
