- Washington Barrow
Washington Barrow was an American politician and a member of the
United States House of Representatives forTennessee 's 8th congressional district. He was born inDavidson County, Tennessee onOctober 5 ,1807 . He received a classical education, became a lawyer, and entered private practice. From 1841 to 1844, he served as America's Minister toPortugal . He also worked as a newspaper editor.He was elected as a Whig to the Thirtieth Congress, but he was not a candidate for renomination to the Thirty-first Congress in 1848. He served from
March 4 ,1847 toMarch 3 ,1849 . He worked as a businessman and was a member of theTennessee Senate in 1860 and 1861. He died inSt. Louis, Missouri onOctober 19 ,1866 . He was interred in the vault of Dr. John Shelby on a private estate in EastNashville, Tennessee .Barrow was the half-brother of
Alexander Barrow , aU.S. Senator fromLouisiana , whom was the son of Washington Barrow's father and his first wife.References
