Bryan Del Monte

Bryan Del Monte was the United States Department of Defense's deputy director for policy development and international issues in the Office of Detainee Affairs. Del Monte served as a spokesman for the Bush Administration's detainee policies. He has made controversial assertions that stand in contrast to the statements of the detainees, and their lawyers. On May 13 2006 Del Monte spoke about "youngsters" still held at Guantanamo. According to Asharq Alawsat::"Del Monte said that those in charge of the Guantanamo detention camp provide the three youngsters with lessons every morning in Mathematics, English, Sciences, and other subjects for their mental and psychological needs in addition to teaching physical fitness and sports. Clive Stafford Smith, a human rights lawyer, documented over a dozen detainees who were minors when captured. But they were released on January 28 2004.

Del Monte left the Department of Defense in late 2007 and works for a private consulting firm. He is also editor of the conservative blog "Right Commentary" http://www.rightcommentary.com writing on politics and election issues.
