Barbara Romack (born
November 16 ,1932 atSacramento, California ) is an Americangolf champion. She won the prestigiousNorth and South Women's Amateur Golf Championship at Pinehurst in 1952 then in 1954 she defeatedMickey Wright in the finals to win theUnited States Women's Amateur Golf Championship . Her playing brought an invitation to theWhite House and PresidentDwight Eisenhower became a great friend.In 1955 she finished second to
Jessie Valentine in theBritish Ladies Amateur Golf Championship played at theRoyal Portrush Golf Club inNorthern Ireland . Her golfing performances earned her the cover ofSports Illustrated onApril 16 ,1956 . In May 1957 she married Edward Wayne (Bud) Porter, an associate golf professional at course in her native Sacramento.Barbara Romack was the runner-up to
Anne Quast in the 1958 U.S. Amateur championship. A member of the U.S. team that won theCurtis Cup in 1954, 1956, and 1958, Ms Romack joined the LPGA Tour in 1958. Among her victories was the 1960 LPGA Leesburg Pro-Am Golf Tournament. Ms Romack has won on the senior tour and has remained involved with the game of golf throughout her life. She has worked for theUSGA as a volunteer. At one time she served as vice-president of the LPGA.External links
