Ted was the brother of
Kathy Beale , and appeared inAlbert Square with his two children, Sarah and Tony. Ted had fled Walford thirty years previously after his life was threatened byDen Watts , after Ted had landed his then brother-in-lawPete Beale in some trouble after asking him to store some stolen goods in a lockup. After hearing of Den (believed dead at the time by most Albert Square residents) and Pete's deaths, Ted returnedbut it didn't sit very well with Pete's sister,Pauline Fowler who still blamed him for almost ruining her brother's life.Shortly after arriving, Ted purchased a shop on Bridge Street and named it 'Hills' Hardware', but later had to sell it in order to pay off mounting debts. He is the ex-husband of
Irene Raymond .Ted had a bad temper which usually got him into trouble. When his daughter Sarah fled the Square, he put
Robbie Jackson in hospital, suspecting that he hadrape d Sarah. In fact, Sarah had come onto Robbie and fledWalford in shame.When Ted found out that his son Tony was gay, he nearly disowned him, losing many friends in the Square. He was offered a job in
Dubai and accepted, leaving Walford. He has since moved toSouth Africa , and lives near to where Kathy lived before her death.
