Serkan Girgin

Serkan Girgin (1979) is a Turkish mountaineer, who summited in 2006 Mount Everest along with three other teammates.

Serkan was born on October 19, 1979 in Ankara, Turkey. He holds a BS and a MS degree in Environmental Engineering, and another MS degree in Geodesy and Geographical Information Technologies from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara. He is currently an ongoing PhD student in Environmental Engineering. He enjoys mountaineering since 1996.

In December 2000, he climbed Mount Ağrı (Mt. Ararat) (5,137 m) along with two teammates. In July 2002, he and four other mountaineers helped a blind climber to reach the summit of Mt. Ararat.

On July 22, 2005, he successfully summited Gasherbrum II (8,035 m), the 14th highest peak of the world, with a Turkish team comprising six members.

Serkan participated in the Petrol Ofisi sponsored Turkish expedition, and reached the top of Mt. Everest on May 15, 2006 along with two other comrades following their teammate Eylem Elif Maviş, the first Turkish Everest summiter.

He has a twin brother named Sertan.
