St. Christopher's Hospital for Children

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is a non-sectarian 161 bed children's hospital located in Philadelphia. It's Physicians serve as the pediatrics department at the Drexel University College of Medicine. St. Christopher's opened it's doors in 1875, and now has a medical staff of more than 270 pediatric specialists. The hospital is also a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center that provides programs such as kidney and liver transplantation and open heart surgery for the children of the greater Philadelphia area and from around the world.St. Christopher's serves as the principal provider of pediatric primary and subspecialty pediatric care for the surrounding neighborhoods of North Philadelphia, Kensington, Northeast Philadelphia, and Germantown and for the Tri-State area (of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware) as a referral center. Among the specialized programs included at St. Christopher's are the Sickle Cell Program, the Pediatric and Adolescent HIV/AIDS Program, the Cystic Fibrosis Program, and Neurofibromatosis. The Pediatric Residency at St. Christopher's is top ranked. Each year St. Christopher's Hospital for Children receives thousands of applications to its Pediatric Residency Program from which 300 are selected to interview. From this group, St. Christopher's selects 24 PL-1 residents through the National Resident Matching Program. The criteria of the Selection Committee include community service and enthusiasm for serving children, as well as traditional academic measurements. The Pediatric Residency places a special focus on training in child advocacy and the teaching of medical students for its trainees.

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is closely tied to the Eagles Eye Mobile, a mobile Eye Care unit providing pediatric services in the Philadelphia area.

In 1998, St. Christopher's joined Tenet Healthcare.
