August 23 ,1892 -December 28 ,1952 ) was aUnited States Senator fromOregon . Born in Astoria, he attended the public schools there and in Portland as well as theUniversity of Washington atSeattle , theUniversity of Oregon Law School , andNorthwest College of Law (Portland). He was admitted to the bar in 1917 and commenced practice in Portland. During theFirst World War he was commissioned a second lieutenant and served in the artillery until February 1919.Barry was a member of the Oregon Relief Committee in 1932, the Oregon Relief Commission in 1933, and the
Oregon Liquor Control Commission from 1933 to 1935. He was chairman ofSchool District No. 1 Civil Service Board in 1937 and 1938, and was elected onNovember 8 ,1938 as a Republican to the U.S. Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation ofFrederick Steiwer . Barry served fromNovember 9 ,1938 , toJanuary 3 ,1939 ; he was not a candidate for election to the full term and resumed the practice of law. He was a member of theOregon House of Representatives from 1945 to 1950 and in 1952 died in Portland. Interment was inWillamette National Cemetery .ee also
