The British International School in Cairo (BISC) is a private British school in Egypt. It participates in the IB, GCSE and SAT exams. It was established in 1976 to provide an education based on British principles and curricula for the children of the expatriate British and Anglo-Egyptian communities; children from the Commonwealth and other countries with educational systems based upon British standards; children of the English-speaking Egyptian community and other nationalities tied to British-type schooling.

BISC is an independent, fee-financed society, authorized by the Ministry of Social Affairs. It is situated in Zamalek, a residential area on a large island close to the center of the city and within a three-minute walk of the private Gezira Sporting Club where the sporting facilities are extensively used by the school.

The "Good Schools Guide International" states that the school provides "A very happy time for some pupils, less so for others, but most emerge more robust and able to take on greater challenges," adding "It offers a world class education – arguably the best in Egypt - and prestige. To be a BISC graduate certainly says something." [http://gsgi.co.uk/countries/egypt/cairo/british-international-school-of-cairo-bisc?form.submitted=1&country=egypt&countryCity=&submit=Go&city=]

Technology in the School

The school has installed digital projectors in all school classrooms, and also possesses several mobile carts of laptops (which are supplied to classrooms on demand).

Y9 students are required to study for and take the ICDL (International Computer Driving License).

Admissions

BISC is a selective entry school and prior to admission, students undergo informal interviews with the Principal. Further interviews are carried out by the relevant Heads of Schools. Admission is also subject to the availability of spaces in the required year group and, of course, the parents' financial situation.
