It was derived from theSaturn V rocket , used for the Apollo program, and is commonly mistaken for the Saturn V. It was only launched once, fromKennedy Space Center atCape Canaveral , carrying theSkylab space station into orbit, at 17:50GMT , onMay 14 ,1973 . It was intended to be used for other flights in theApollo Applications Program , and would have also been used to launch other American space stations, includingSkylab B , theS-IVB Dry Workshop , and theS-II Wet Workshop .The INT-21 and Saturn V have common first and second stages, but they differ in that the INT-21 lacked a third stage. It was also intended to have the instrumentation fitted atop the second stage, but by the time the rocket was actually built, it had been moved to a position atop the payload.
