Jasper's Mindmelt was a Canadian indie rock group, consisting of vocalist/bassist Francis Cowan, vocalist/guitarist William Cowan, guitarist/keyboardist Jeff Lahti, bassist Steve St.Amand and drummer Grant Roberts.

History

Originally formed in 1993 in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada, the band consisted of F.Cowan, W.Cowan, Lahti and Roberts, with F.Cowan as the bassist. St.Amand was added as the fifth member and bassist shortly before the recording of the band's only release, "The Slide EP," while F.Cowan played a third guitar.

The Slide EP was recorded at Meat Locker Studios in Oshawa in April 1994 and released on the independent Meat Locker Record label. The EP consisted of six songs, including the single "Drop", which garnered the band moderate success on campus radio in south-central Ontario, most notably the Peterborough, Ontario area.

On The Slide EP, Francis Cowan sang lead on five of the six songs, with William Cowan singing lead on "Julia Spins". Grant Roberts was the backup vocalist and keyboardist on "Julia Spins". Roberts also engineered and produced the EP.

The band went on to play the famed Opera House in Toronto, Ontario, with the help of Mike Turner, former guitarist of Our Lady Peace, while opening for Sister Kaos. The band also opened up for Treble Charger.

The band played their last show together in July 1995 when shortly after Roberts left. The remnants of the band formed Polaris, who never did put out an album. Roberts went on to form Casual Mischief with former XntriK bassist Peter Dounetas in 1997, while the Cowan brothers are currently in City Coin Laundry [http://www.myspace.com/citycoinlaundry] , which released their first album, "Wool Gathering" in 2008.
