He represented the Chilean national team at the 1966 World Cup, and played all three matches for the team.He was capped 50 times and socerd 11 goals for his country between 1964 and 1972.Very skillful and fast, Araya playing of "7" classic (front "outside" of the area), had a better style race on Garrincha and it was addressed as himself. Along with Campos and Carlos Leonel Sanchez formed the great offensive of triplet Ballet Azul.By the University of Chile became 82 goals and the team played 52 matches making 11 goals.His career also continues in Mexico playing for the San Luis de Potosi and Atlas de Guadalajara (even in a friendly it was a goal at Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu himself).In America's Cup Montevideo in 1967, Araya was called by the Chilean Garrincha The Uruguayan press.She currently resides in San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
