Emerse Faé (born 24 January 1984 in Nantes, France) is a French-born Ivorian professional football midfielder who plays for Ligue 1 side OGC Nice on loan from Championship club Reading, and Côte d'Ivoire.

Club career

Nantes

Faé started his career with his home town club, Nantes, in 2003 who were then in Ligue 1. He went on to play over 100 league games for them.

Reading

During the summer 2007 transfer window, Faé was strongly linked with a move to Premier League club Reading, and eventually completed a £2.5m move on 2 August 2007, [cite news | date=2007-08-02 | url=http://www.readingfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10306~1083650,00.html | title=Fae joins for club record fee | work=readingfc.co.uk | accessdate=2007-08-02] signing a three-year contract, with the option of a fourth. He was given the number 20 shirt. Faé was diagnosed as having contracted malaria following blood tests on 1 March 2008. He fell ill in the build up to Reading's match away to Middlesbrough the previous day, and flew back south for medical treatment which revealed the disease. After failing to break into the Reading first team, Fae refused to play for the reserve team against Spurs reserves along with Fellow reading player Ibrahima Sonko. Both were fined two weeks wages and suspended for two weeks and therefore were not able to see out the rest of the season, missing the crucial crunch matches for Reading's ultimately doomed attempt at Premier League survival.

Fae's career at Reading now seems to be over as the Ivorian international has flown back to France with both Steve Coppell and Fae himself saying that he will never play for Reading again. International career

As a teenager, Faé played football for the French U17 and U21 teams, winning the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship in Trinidad and Tobago in 2001. However, in 2005, following a FIFA rule change concerning national team eligibility, Faé switched allegiances from France to Côte d'Ivoire, the country from which his parents had come. Faé was called up to the Côte d'Ivoire 23-man squad for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, [cite news | date=2008-01-04 | url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/africa/7172162.stm | title=Drogba named in Ivory Coast squad | publisher=BBC Sport | accessdate=2008-01-21] and made his first appearance at the tournament in the Elephants' 3-0 victory over Mali on 29 January 2008.
