Laura D'Andrea Tyson (b.
June 28 ,1947 ,New Jersey ) is an Americaneconomist and former Chair of the President'sCouncil of Economic Advisers . She also served as Director of theNational Economic Council . She is currently a professor at theHaas School of Business of theUniversity of California, Berkeley , as well as an economic adviser toBarack Obama .From 2002 to 2006, Tyson was the first female Dean of the
London Business School . From 1998 to 2001, she was Dean of theHaas School of Business . She served in the Clinton Administration as Chairman of the President'sCouncil of Economic Advisers from 1993 to 1995 and Director of theNational Economic Council from 1995 to 1996. Tyson has been a member of theCouncil on Foreign Relations since 1987, a Director ofMorgan Stanley since 1997, a Director ofAT&T Inc. since 1999 and a Director ofEastman Kodak .Academics
Tyson graduated
summa cum laude with a B.A. ineconomics fromSmith College in 1969 and earned her Ph.D. inEconomics from theMassachusetts Institute of Technology in 1974. She joined the faculty of the economics department atPrinceton University in 1974 and remained in the position until 1977 when she became a professor of economics at theUniversity of California, Berkeley . She was appointed a professor ofbusiness administration in 1990. She is married to writer Erik S. Tarloff and has one son Elliot S. Tarloff.Works
Tyson has published a number of books and articles on industrial competitiveness,
trade , and also on the economies ofCentral Europe and their transitions tomarket system s.An Economic Viewpoint columnist for
