"Mikrogeophagus" is a neotropical cichlid genus. The genus Mikrogeophagus includes only two species. "M. ramirezi" and "M. altispinosa". Both species spawn on flat rocks or leaves and not in caves like fishes from the closely related cichlid genus "Apistogramma".

Fishes from this genus are sometimes recorded as "Papiliochromis" or "Microgeophagus" though these genera should be regarded as a junior synonyms. (Kullander, 2003)
