:"For the California-based bank, see East West Bank."East West Bank, more formally known as East West Banking Corporation, is a medium-sized commercial bank in the Philippines and the first commercial bank to be licensed in twenty years at the time of its licensing. Its headquarters is at the 19th, 20th, 21st and 27th floors of PBCom Tower, the tallest building in the Philippines and home to a rival commercial bank.

History

EastWest Bank was born on July 6, 1994 as the Philippines' thirty-fourth commercial bank. It was on that date that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas granted EastWest Bank its commercial banking license, the first in twenty years.

Backed-up by a formidable real-estate industry stalwart, the Filinvest Group of Companies, EastWest Bank formally opened its doors to the public in Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, Makati City on August 1, 1994.

A forward-looking culture has enabled EastWest Bank to pioneer innovations in banking, particularly in its online banking facilities. Five years into its operations, EastWest Bank has embarked on a full computerization program that has made possible a more efficient delivery system of bank products and services through its growing nationwide network of branches.

In 2004, the Bank received the prestigious Best Website Award in the Banking and Finance category of the 7th Philippine Web Awards, the most coveted award in the field of web design. The Bank's website has been commended for its timely updates, informative, well-written and useful content and its masterful blending of visual elements vis a vis an easy navigation of the site.

The Bank scored a first in online banking recently, when it introduced the Check Imaging Facility, which enables account holders to view online checks they have issued a week after clearing. This facility eliminates tedious physical storage and monitoring of checks. Transfer of funds, monitoring of statements and payment of bills are made more convenient with the NetAccess. The Bank also has the distinction of being the first to give housing loan applicants indicative approval of their applications via its Internet Loan Application Process.

From its pioneer branch along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City, Philippines, EastWest Bank moved to its present headquarters at the 19th, 20th, 21st and 27th floors of PBCom Tower, the tallest building in the Philippines and the headquarters of competitor Philippine Bank of Communications.

ubsidiaries and affiliates
