Herbert Media (formerly known as the Depot Studios) is housed within the Herbert in
Coventry City Centre nearCoventry Cathedral andCoventry University , via Bayley Lane. It provides facilities, equipment hire, training, production projects, support for artists and a presentation of media art works. The media centre is currently located on the second floor of the Herbert and boastsNew Media ,Audio ,Video facilities, and an Arts Information Centre with exhibitions and events open to the public.Production and Development
Herbert Media relocated from the Depot Studios to the Herbert and re-opened in October 2005. The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum was opened in March 1960 and named after Sir Alfred Herbert, a local industrialist who founded Alfred Herbert Limited, at one time the world's largest machine tool-making company. The Herbert is owned by
Coventry City Council and is currently undergoing a major re-development during the period of 2003 - 2007. Phase 1 of the development was completed in 2005. This resulted in a new entrance on Bayley Lane, a new café area and neweducation ,training , gallery, creative media and arts information facilities. The next phase of development started in late 2004 and will result in:
* A Coventry History Centre
* New exhibitions telling the story of the city and its people
* New gallery spaces for touring and locally produced work
* More spaces for use by schools
* Facilities to preserve the city'sarchive and museum collectionsThe Second Floor
Herbert Media includes a corporate training room, an arts information centre with excellent resources and reference library.
The First Floor
'The Studio'-an exhibition space, is housed on this floor, as well as the Herbert Media Recording Studio (Live & Control rooms), a MIDI suite and a recently refitted New Media Suite.
