semiconductor manufacturer founded in 1973 as amasked ROM house, whose product range branched into a broad offering of MOS/LSI chips (static RAM s, ROMs,EPROM s, dynamic and staticshift registers ) and then, sometime before 1979,second source d versions ofMOS Technology 's successful 65028-bit microprocessor , and the (less successful)Philips /Signetics 2650 processor.Synertek acquired
Microcomputer Associates , consisting of engineersManny Lemas andRay Holt , after which the company was renamed "Synertek Systems, Inc.". In 1978, Synertek released a 6502-basedsingle board computer /evaluation kit called theSYM-1 , a derivative of MOS Technology/Commodore Semiconductor Group'sKIM-1 .Synertek's
semiconductor fabrication plant inSanta Clara, California operated from 1974 to 1985. There wasSuperfund attention to pollution at the Synertek factory site. Sometime after 1979, Synertek was acquired byHoneywell .References
