Yi Fung

Yi Fung

Yi Fung (易風) is one of the major characters in the popular "Fung Wan" comic series. He is the current master of the Evil King blade (the legendary most evil weapon in the martial world). Yi Fung is actually the son of Wind, but was brought up by his foster father, who owned a chain of gambling dens.

Since young, he has shown his cunning, highly intelligent and opportunistic nature in the gambling den. Though he has done his fair share of evil deeds, he has also been shown to be virtuous at times.

The Crazy Blood running in the Nip family gives Yi Fung the strength and tendency to turn berserk. As of current development of the plot, readers are unable to determine whether Yi Fung sides the good guys (his father Wind and Cloud) or the villains (Juet Sum)

Birth

His mother Second Dream (第二夢) gave birth to Yi Fung while being imprisoned by the archvillain Duen Long. He was separated from his mother as soon as he was born. Around the same period, Duen Long's wife also gave birth to the twins Shen Feng and Lan Wu. Fearing for her sons' safety, Duen Long's wife swapped baby Yi Fung with Shen Feng.

Knowing that his wife had given birth, Wind then requested his friend Royal Shadow (皇影) to help rescue his son just before he duelled Duen Long. After cutting an arm to prevent poison from spreading and barely escaping death, Royal Shadow unknowingly rescued Shen Feng, was captured by the Japanese general and sent back to Japan.

On the other hand, Duen Long's wife ran away with baby Yi Fung after Duen Long was vanquished. She remarried Yi Lao Da, the owner of gambling dens, and named the baby as Yi Fung (Yi Lao Da's family name combined with Wind's name). Yi Fung spent his childhood and early teens helping his foster father in the gambling den.

Entering the Martial World

In his early teens, Yi Fung happened to strike friendship with Shen Feng, who had just returned from Japan to search for his father (thought to be Wind). Yi Fung considered Shen Feng his best friend, and secretly aided Shen Feng in several occasions.

Soon, Yi Fung's curiosity to explore and enthusiasm to help Shen Feng led him into the martial world. An opportunity came when the Bai Jian Shan Zhuang (the same place Cloud's Ultimate Superior Sword (絕世好劍) was forged) invited sword-owners to witness the officiating of the Failure-Death sword, a new sword forged from the same steel as the Ultimate Superior Sword. Eventually the new sword chose him as its new owner, although what's happened to the sword after the Evil King's blade has chosen him is not known.

Although Yi Fung was a relatively unknown newcomer in the martial world, he managed to gain entry into the Bai Jian Shan Zhuang by murdering and impersonating another swordsman (the swordsman had earlier offended Yi Fung). Fortunately for Yi Fung, the guards only identified the sword rather than the sword master. After some drama on the day the Failure-Death was shown to the guests, Yi Fung escaped Bai Jian Shan Zhuang with the new sword and became a fugitive on the run.

First Master

Yi Fung's first master was Huai Mie, who was so saddened after the death of his brother Huai Kong that he went crazy, killing anyone who didn't know his deceased brother's history. He gained the name Yat Kwong. Yi Fung gained the trust of Huai Mie when the latter was injured in a duel with the Lam Yuet sect. Later Yi Fung struck a deal with the former to help him retrieve the Heaven Sin in return for Huai Mie to teach Yi Fung martial arts.

Their master-disciple relationship was a strong one. Huai Mie came to the aid of Yi Fung in several sticky situations, offering advice or an extra hand in fighting. However, Yi Fung ultimately requested to sever their ties just before becoming the master of the Evil King blade, for it is necessary for the Evil King to get rid of all ties to be truly merciless. He also murdered his only love, the granddaughter of Siu Sam Siu.

Path Towards Evil King

Juet Sum's plan to awaken he Failure-Death sword, which is actually an older and more violent sibling of Ultimate Superior Sword, succeeded, and the Failure-Death sword has chosen Yi Fung as its owner. Even Mou Ming's effort to sever their ties failed, just like his effort when he tried to do the same to Bou Keng Wan and the Ultimate Superior Sword way back. With the emergance of Failure-Death sword, Juet Sum then successfully awakened the most powerful evil sword of all, the Evil King sabre, provoked by the Ultimate Superior Sword, Failure-Death sword, Heaven's Sin and Lonely Blade.

Juet Sum then attacked Mou Ming's restaurant and managed to defeat Mou Ming, before he was defeated by Nip Fung (wielding Heaven's Sin - the only other time he did not use Blizzard Sabre in a sword fight) and Bou Keng Wan. He then discovered that Invincible Wu planned for him to get the Evil King Sabre to learn the Evil King 10 stances technique so Invincible Wu could defeat him and bring honor to his family name. Invincible Wu's ancestor was the Second to None Wu, the man who beat the Evil King Sabre with the Destiny Sabre. In the ensuing battle Invincible Wu wins with the help of his nephew, and get the idea of creating Heaven Path War Weapon box from that battle.

Suffering from that battle, he returns to his hideout just to find out that his subordinates, which includes Yi Fung, has revolted. On his wit's end, his mother appeared and helped him escape from the watchful eyes of Bou Tin and Huai Mie under an elaborate disguise scheme. he has to pay the ultimate price though, which is leaving the Evil King sword behind.

One of Juet Sum's man took the sword on the pretext of resealing the sword back, and Yi Fung returned to his hometown with the Failure-Death sword in tow where his father gambling den is located. He then sealed the sword at the grave of his mother. He helped his father rebuild the den back even after knowing that his real father is Nip Fung, and also finding his first love with a nanny from a nearby temple.

One day a mysterious person comes to the gambling den and won a lot of money, driving the den to bankruptcy. To recoup the loss, Yi Fung gambled with him, offering his own head as collateral. In the end, Yi Fung loses and as he offered his head, his father interjected, saying that his head should be taken instead.

That mysterious man surprisingly agreed, and proceeded to kidnap Yi Fung's father. Yi Fung, who does not agree with the switch, tried to pursue but were stopped by his father's advisor, who said that the mysterious man is more cunning and stronger than Yi Fung. Yi Fung then retrieved the sealed Failure-Death sword and went on to pursue the kidnapper.

Meanwhile, at the kidnapper's hideout, the mysterious man told Yi Fung's father that he will not be harmed. He then went on to tell Yi Fung's father that he is a very big obstacle of Yi Fung's from reaching bigger things in the world of martial arts. As Yi Fung's father knows that Yi Fung real father is the infamous Nip Fung, he then asked what he should do to help Yi Fung to achieve greatness, and the mysterious man replied that he has to die for Yi Fung, when something big happened to Yi Fung in the future.

Yi Fung arrives and fights with the mysterious man and his cohorts. He managed to save his father but lose the Failure-Death sword to the mysterious group who retreated, their mission complete after telling their message to Yi Fung's father. Yi Fung's father did not tell Yi Fung the message the mysterious group told him. Everything returned to normal afterwards. Normal, when suddenly, the villagers find the Evil King sword at the riverbank.

Knowing how dangerous the Evil King sword can be, Yi Fung tried various ways of sealing it but the sword returned to him all the time. He then keeps the Evil King sword as replacement for Failure-Death at the advice of his father's advisor. The news that Yi Fung has the sword spreads like wildfire, and suddenly he has to fight Wu Tien Ha, Bou Tin and Lan Wu who purportedly want the most powerful evil sword ever made resealed.

Huai Mie appeared with Heaven's Sin and helped Yi Fung when suddenly Lan Wu kidnapped Yi Fung's father and threatened to kill him if Yi Fung did not surrender. Seeing that, Yi Fung hesitates and Lan Wu tried to kill him. Yi Fung can only defend himself at that point. Seeing that, Yi Fung's father remembers what the mysterious man has told him before and hurl himself to block the killer blow aimed at Yi Fung by Lan Wu. Before he dies, his father told him to achieve greatness in the world of martial arts. Yi Fung then makes three red lines over the right side of his face using the blood of his father, vowing not to remove them until he avenged his father's death by killing Wu Tien Ha, Lan Wu and Bou Tin (which will be difficult because he is the son of Bou Keng Wan - and this will also became the source of tension between Bou Keng Wan and Nip Fung).

He then chased Lan Wu in anger with the Evil King, and Lan Wu runs away and lead him to a Buddhist burial ground. Due to the nature of that holy ground, the power of the Evil King sword is weakened. Lan Wu's men then ambushed Yi Fung, and he loses the fight, alongside the Evil King sword to Lan Wu. Yi Fung did not die though, and he returned home. He buried his father and refused the help offered by his master Huai Mie. He then finds the box where the Evil King sword has always being sheathed with (the box that becomes the main idea from Invincible Wu's Heaven Path War Weapon), and he finds Golem, a hand-protector with a mini-scythe inside it.

He wore Golem and slowly he become indoctrinated by the power of the Evil King sword. In the meantime, Bou Tin comes to Lan Wu and demands that he reseals the Evil King sword, as promised when they raided Yi Fung's village. Lan Wu refused and they fights, which results in the victory by Lan Wu. Bou Tin barely escapes by the help of the son and daughter of soon-to-come-out one of the guardians of the Evil King sword.

After having his wife kidnapped while her father killed, the wandering Nip Fung comes to visit just to find out that Yi Fung has become somewhat of a messianic figure, asking the villagers to build a temple according to a specific plan he has devised. Nip Fung tried to help his son by teaching him Mo Hor Mou Liong technique but failed. Yi Fung started to forgot all martial arts techniques taught to him by Huai Mie and also Juet Sum as he can only use the legendary 10 Armageddon of Evil King stance, learning them in a different way Juet Sum does. Nip Fung relents, knowing that he cannot really stop Yi Fung from taking revenge.

Meanwhile, emboldened by his win over Bou Tin, Lan Wu hears that the legendary Nip Fung is around and decided to challenge him. He shows the proof that he kidnaps Second Dream as the signal of the challenge. Enraged, Nip Fung went to Lan Wu headquarters to answer the challenge.

Back to Yi Fung, at the temple that was build, a strange swordman is shown kneeling at the front gate of the temple. It turns out that he is one of the 4 guardians of the Evil King sword. Yi Fung appears and shows the proof that he is really the true owner of Evil King sword by sharpening the strange man sword with a 10 Armageddon of Evil King stance. Another guardian (which son and daughter saves Bou Tin from being killed by Lan Wu) sees his feat, and agrees that Yi Fung is indeed the true owner of the sword. They then left with Yi Fung to Lan Wu's HQ to retrieve the sword back.

Back at Lan Wu's headquarters, Nip Fung is kicking asses and taking notes. He saved Second Dream from captivity and defeats relatively easily Lan Wu who are wielding the Evil King sword. Lan Wu runs away and Nip Fung is about to chase him when he suddenly see something. Then, from out of nowhere, Yi Fung appeared in front of Lan Wu and Lan Wu attacks Yi Fung with the Evil King sword. But as the sword is about to hit Yi Fung, the sword broke into many pieces and started to be reassembled around Golem. Yi Fung attacked Lan Wu with the rearranged Evil King sword and defeats Lan Wu heavily. Yi Fung did not kill Lan Wu, but severs important ligaments and arteries so that he will not be able to fight again.

Yi Fung focus now switched to Bou Tin, and eventually Yi Fung finds him at a restaurant and they started to fight. A fight between the sons of Nip Fung and Bou Keng Wan. At first, they fight without weapons, but in that fight Bou Tin quickly gain the upper hand, forcing Yi Fung to use the Evil King sword. The fight is pretty intense, but in the end, Yi Fung managed to defeat Bou Tin. Just before he died, Bou Tin concedes that Yi Fung is indeed stronger than him. At his last breath, Bou Keng Wan arrives at the scene just to find that his son has died.

The fight is now between Yi Fung, wielding the Evil King sword against Bou Keng Wan wielding the Ultimate Superior Sword. One of the guardians tried to fight Bou Keng Wan but he died instantly killed by the enraged Bou Keng Wan. Then Yi Feng and Bou Keng Wan started to fight but the battle quickly favors the stronger Bou Keng Wan. As Bou Keng Wan is about to deal the killer blow, Nip Fung appears and saved Yi Fung from being killed by Bou Keng Wan.

Nip Fung and Bou Keng Wan briefly exchanged blows, while Yi Fung becomes angry at Nip Fung for saving him. Second Dream reprimanded Bou Keng Wan for trying to kill Yi Fung while Bou Keng Wan points out that Yi Fung did indeed murders Bou Tin, a fact Yi Fung agrees. Hearing the confession, Nip Fung started to have doubts about saving Yi Fung but Second Dream is having none of it.

Bou Keng Wan started to try and kill Yi Fung again but Nip Fung half-heartedly acts to stop him. Seeing that, Second Dream vowed to protect Yi Fung, the only son have she have, from Bou Keng Wan if Nip Fung doesn't want to do it, even if she have to die. That put Nip Fung in a dilemma over what he should do. Suddenly, a mysterious figure stole Bou Tin corpse and escapes, shocking everyone in the scene. A moment later, another mysterious figure kidnaps the stunned Yi Fung away from the scene, after knocking him unconscious. Bou Keng Wan, facing the choice of chasing the kidnapper of his son's remains or chasing Yi Fung, chose the former option, leaving Nip Fung and Second Dream stranded all alone at the scene, not knowing what to do.Yi Fung awakened in a dark cave, and he suddenly hear a voice commanding him to walk towards the end of the cave. Yi Fung does so, and upon reaching the destination, he sees a beautiful woman that he instantly recognize as a strange girl who used to come to his father gambling den when he was little. It turns out that the woman is the daughter of the third guardian, who has known for years that the Evil King sword will be awakened and Yi Fung is the real master of the sword.

The third guardian tells Yi Fung that he has to sever all relationship with the earthly world to complete his ownership over the Devil King sword. The guardian then brought Yi Fung to his home village and tell him to finish his business. Yi Fung then ask his girlfriend, the maid at the temple, out for a date, which almost instantly turned violent where Yi Fung kills her without any remorse. After he buried her, he and the guardians of the sword left the village, at which in this point of the storyline, Yi Fung has become the true owner of the Evil King sword.
