see_also =Illinois Route 129 is a north-south state road in northeastern
Illinois . It runs fromIllinois Route 113 in downtown Braidwood north toInterstate 55 . This is a distance of convert|4.06|mi|km|2.Route description
Illinois 129 is a two lane surface street for its entire length. Like
Illinois Route 126 , traffic at the terminus with Interstate 55 can only exit in one direction on I-55; in the case of Illinois 129, northbound traffic at Interstate 55 can only travel northbound on Interstate 55. However, there is a U-turn ramp approximately 1/4 mile (1/2 km) north of the intersection on Interstate 55, which is unmarked and striped as though traffic is prohibited from using the ramp.History
SBI Route 129 originally ran from Effingham to Windsor. It was replaced by
Illinois Route 32 in 1936.In 1960, the number was reused for a former alignment of
U.S. Route 66 that ran from Gardner to Wilmington. In 1995, a section of the highway south of Braidwood was closed to through traffic when a deteriorated bridge over a railroad line was deemed too expensive to repair. From 1995 until 1996, the Route 129 designation was moved to the other side of the railroad tracks, where it shared alignment withIllinois Route 53 . This designation was dropped in 1996.References
