[http://www.tofi.or.id/q22003/en/aboutus/roadgold.php?action=query&event=ipho&tahun=2004] It is considered as one of the most prestigious high schools in Indonesia.

It is one of the currently 50 schools in Jakarta, Banten and West Java managed by BPK PENABUR.

History

SMU Kristen 1 Jakarta was first established on 1947 as a MULO ("Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs", the Colonial Dutch secondary school) in its old location at Pintu Air 11 Road. Its director then was J. C. Boss (1947-1950). The next year it was renamed CVS ("Christelijke Vereniging Scholen", Christian Association School). Its next director was Van Der Meer (1950-1951).

After the end of Dutch colonization in Indonesia, CVS was taken over by THKTKH ("Tiong Hoa Kie Tok Kauw Hwee", Union of Chinese Christian) and renamed "SMA Istimewa" (Special Christian High School). On August 1st, 1950, SMA Istimewa became SMAK I under the BPK Jabar Foundation. On March 1989, BPK Jabar KPS Jakarta changed its name to BPK PENABUR KPS Jakarta.

In the same year, after the completion of its new building in 4 Tanjung Duren Raya Road, SMAK I was moved to the new building, its current location. Its previous location at Pintu Air 11 Road was to be used by SMAK II, previously an afternoon school in the same location.

In 1994, in accordance to the new Indonesian Educational Curriculum, SMAK I was renamed again as SMUK 1 (Christian High School 1). [http://a01jkt.bpkpenabur.or.id/history.htm]
