The Jersey Off Road Bicycle Association (JORBA) was formed in 1999 to promote mountain biking in
New Jersey ,USA , by promoting volunteer efforts, including trail maintenance, sustainable trail building, group rides and skills clinics. JORBA is a 501(c)(3)non-profit organization . JORBA is an affiliated club of the International Mountain Biking Association ( [http://www.IMBA.com IMBA] ).In 1999, Sarah Frost was elected as the first Executive Director by the original Board of Trustees. Brendan Poh followed Sarah Frost in 2001 as Executive Director. Wally Tunison, also one of the original Board of Trustees, was instrumental along with Ms. Frost in developing the nationally recognized [http://www.jorba.org/pay_dirt Pay Dirt] Program whereby trail work earns points towards the Hudson to Highlands race series, as well as merchandise credits at participating shops and a bicycle giveaway(s) at the close of the race/trail work season.
JORBA Chapters are located throughout NJ in order to steward specific parks or park systems according to the mission of JORBA. These chapters are: Atlantic County Trail Volunteers, Allaire Trail Users Group, Allamuchy Chain Gang, Black Bear Cycling, Jersey Action Riders, Monmouth County Parks, Morris Trails Partnership, Ramapo Valley Cycling Club, S.M.A.R.T., Six Mile Run, Somerset County Parks, Team Bulldog, Wildcat Ridge WMA.
Officers: Jay Jones of the Jersey Action Riders is the President. Frank Harms of the Allaire Trail Users Group is the Vice President. Co-Treasurers are Michael Tormey and Kevin Stout of SMART. Secretary is Ellen White of Ramapo Valley Cycling. Jeffrey Mergler is the Executive Director.
