Samiilo Bohdanovych-Zarudny ( _uk. Самійло Богданович-Зарудний; _pl. Samuel Zarudny Bogdanowicz) was a
Cossack diplomat, noble and general judge of theZaporozhian Host , who defected toBohdan Khmelnytsky 's side at Korsun (Korsun-Shevchenkivskyi ) in1648 .Bohdanovych-Zarudny played key roles in the
Treaty of Pereyaslav (Pereiaslav Treaty) of1654 which began when he conducted negotiations inWarsaw in1650 , and subsequently headed the Kozak delegations toMoscow (1652 and again in 1654) andTurkey (1653 ). In1657 Bohdanovych-Zarudny traveled toTransylvania to once again initiate negotiations towards another treaty. This eventually led to the1658 signing, withPoland , of theTreaty of Hadiach (Hadiache).Following the decline of
Ivan Vyhovsky , Bohdanovych-Zarudny joinedYurii Khmelnytsky where he participated in drafting the Treaty of Slobodyshche.In
1664 , Bohdanovych-Zarudny fought, alongside the Polish, againstIvan Briukhovetsky who eventually signed theMoscow Articles of 1665 , effectively placingUkraine under the direct rule of theTsar , and thereby ending Ukraine's independence and autonomy.References
