Kalamazoo Promise

The Kalamazoo Promise is a pledge by a group of anonymous donors to pay up to 100 percent of tuition at any of Michigan's state colleges or universities for graduates of Kalamazoo's public high schools.

. Early indicators show the Promise has been credited with a rise in housing prices within the school district, increased interest from developers, growth in enrollment for Kalamazoo's public schools and an increase in Kalamazoo public high school graduates who attend college. The endowment to finance the program is estimated between $200 million to $250 million.

Similar tutition programs are being developed in Newton, Iowa and Denver, Colorado.Fact|date=March 2007

Qualifications

Students must live within the Kalamazoo School District and attend a Kalamazoo public school. The benefit depends upon the amount of time a pupil has been enrolled in Kalamazoo Public Schools.
