Bié is a province of
Angola . Located onBié Plateau in central part of country. Its capital isKuito and it has an area of 70,314 km² and a population of approximately 800,000. Municipalities in the province includeAndulo ,Nharea ,Cunhinga ,Chinguar ,Chitembo ,Catabola ,Camacupa andCuemba . CurrentMPLA Governor isJosé Amaro Tati . Itsclimate is fresh and abundant rainfall makes possible the culture ofcorn ,sugar cane ,rice ,coffee andpeanut s.It has boundaries with the province of
Malanje , to the northeast with the province ofLunda Sul , toMoxico , to the south withCuando Cubango and to the west with the provinces ofHuila ,Huambo andCuanza Sul . The ground known to be the most fertile ofAngola and it is furrowed to east and north from theCuanza River , that sliding towards north, it marks part of the border with Malanje. The south-west is furrowed from the river "Cuchi", an affluent of riverCubango .Bié province is perhaps best known as the birthplace of Angolan rebel and political leader
Jonas Savimbi , who led a 38-year resistance against Angola's Marxist government. Savimbi was killed in combat in2002 .External links
