Tatsumichi Oki

Tatsumichi Oki (大木立道 "Ōki Tatsumichi") is a character in the novel Battle Royale, and the film and manga of the same name. In the film he was played by Gouki Nishimura (with the character being listed as "Tatsumichi Ohki"). The English-language manga romanizes his name as "Ooki."

Tatsumichi has O-type blood.

Pre-Program

Tatsumichi Oki is one of the class of third-year students at the fictional Shiroiwa Junior High School in the fictional town of Shiroiwa, Kagawa Prefecture. Tatsumichi is a cheerful, friendly boy who has a buzz cut hairstyle. He was a star player on the handball team.

Apparently, he is the new kid in Shiroiwa in the manga. In the novel, it is stated that Tatsumichi is friends with Kazushi Niida and Tadakatsu Hatagami.

During the Program

Oki is encountered by Shuya Nanahara and Noriko Nakagawa quite early on in the story. He stands on a path on the north mountain a few feet away from where Shuya and Noriko are hiding. When Shuya notices him, he unwittingly touches his designated weapon (an army knife) and drives Oki to attack them with his designated weapon, a hatchet.

In the manga, Oki has a machete and bursts out of the bushes in the north mountain clearing that Shuya and Noriko have been resting in. Oki misses them, cutting both their day packs. Oki stands in the bushes while Shuya, thinking Oki was merely frightened, tries to pursade him that he is a friend and offers Oki the chance to come with them. Oki reveals his insanity and attacks them.

In the film Oki just jumps out of a bush as Shuya and Noriko are walking away from an area turning into a danger zone.

Shuya and Oki fight, and in the struggle they fall to the ground and roll down a steep hill. Shuya sits up when they reach a halt, to discover that the hatchet, or in the manga, his machete, has become embedded in Oki's face (top of the skull in the film version). Although Oki was described as being calm and friendly, he is one of the many students who is driven to extremes by the conditions on the Island.

Yuko Sakaki witnesses Oki's death; this later leads to the death of Yukie Utsumi's group in the lighthouse.
