Lake Arrowhead is located approximately two miles southwest of Waleska, Georgia, in the mountainous northwestern corner of Cherokee County, Georgia, Georgia's largest, man-made, privately owned lake [http://www.cherokeega.com/about/history.cfm] which covers about 540 acres to depths of up to 80 feet. Lake Arrowhead was bought in the 1960s and was established in the early 1970s as a remote mountain retreat, but now finds itself at the edge of Metro Atlanta's suburban expansion. The small valley Lake Arrowhead sits in and the surrounding community was originally known by local residents as "Lost Town." The area was originally settled in the 1840s, and many descendants of the first pioneers still live nearby in the Waleska area.

Lake Arrowhead is a gated community with two security gates and home to an 18 hole golf course, a club house, a marina, nature trails, a chapel, a community pool with tennis courts and two volunteer fire departments. The community also includes a lake called Lake Chickasaw that is not connected to the main lake. The community also includes condominium homes, some which are located on the golf course. Lake Arrowhead is also home to a small cemetery, consisting mostly of graves of the early settlers of the Puckett family. Currently Lake Arrowhead is in the process of further expansion by building another 18 hole golf course, adding another fire department, building a lake pavilion, new club house, restaurant, and also adding a new community area which includes a new pool, a skate park and an amphitheatre.

Local elementary aged school (Kindergarten to 6th grade) children go to R.M. Moore Elementary School, while school children from 7th grade to 8th grade go to Teasley Middle School. All high schoolers (9th to 12th grade) are assigned to Cherokee High School.
