racehorse , was foaled on March 27, 1998 inKentucky . In 2001, as a three-year-old, he won thePreakness Stakes andBelmont Stakes , along with theEclipse Award for Horse of the Year . He is the only horse in history to have won four $1,000,000 races in a row: the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes (in which he ran the fourth fastest Belmont ever, faster than bothSeattle Slew andAffirmed , each of which achieved the Triple Crown), theHaskell Invitational Handicap , and theTravers Stakes . The only time he ever finished out of the money was in the 2001Kentucky Derby , where he ran 5th.Point Given was one of only five horses since 1900 to win the G1 Preakness, the G1 Belmont, and the G1 Travers Stakes (the others were Man o' War, Damascus,
Whirlaway , andNative Dancer ).He was affectionately called "The Big Red Train" or "T-Rex" by his trainer
Bob Baffert , owner Prince Ahmed bin Salman, and hall-of-fame jockey Gary Stevens, as well as by the press and the handicappers who made him the betting favorite in all seven of his starts in 2001.One week after his victory in the Travers Stakes he was found to have a strained tendon, just bad enough to end his racing career. He was retired on September 1, 2001 to stand at stud at
Three Chimneys Farm inMidway, Kentucky for an initial fee of $125,000. He was subsequently syndicated for $50 million, the third highest price in history (behindFusaichi Pegasus at $60 million andBig Brown at something over $50 million). Hisstud fee as of 2007 is $30,000. His first foals were three-year-olds in 2006.References
