The Thai Customs Decree was a decree that was implemented during World War II under the Phibun regime. It prohibited the "wearing of sarongs, the use of Malay (Muslim) names and the Malay language." [Syed Serajul Islam, "The Islamic Independence Movements in Patani of Thailand and Mindanao of the Philippines," "Asian Survey", Vol. 38, No. 5, (May 1998), 444.] The decree was repealed in 1961.
