The Medium Wave Band

The Medium Wave Band

The Medium Wave Band, was a Scottish folk rock band that started in the 1970s. The band was founded by Erne Parkin (singer), Les Cockburn (fiddler/mandolinist), Steve Moss (guitarist) and Keyboardist Richard Chernes (of RunRig fame).

After much success, playing gigs all over Scotland, the band was under pressure to go professional. However this pressure ultimately lead to a split. The band reformed in the early eighties, with members Parkin, Cockburn and Moss and new members Billy Milne (Drummer) and bassist Roy Martin. Their first single, "Ballrooms of Romance" was released in 1984 when the band changed its name to Avalon.
