Hungry Young Poets (aka HYP) is founded in the
Philippines as a duo in1997 byBarbie Almalbis (guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter) andRicci Gurango (bassist). After releasing their one self-titled album,Franklin Benitez (drummer) would officially complete the trio.In 1998, Gurango left the band to lead cover band, Little Green Men, [cite web|url=http://www.philmusic.com/zine/news/1998/12/121798_hyp/index.htm|title=Hungry Young Poets Co-founder Quits Band|accessdate=2006-05-07] , before forming MOJOFLY. With Gurango's assertion of rights to the band's name, Almalbis and Benitez would later rename the group, Barbie's Cradle.
