drama film based on the best-selling book "" byLaura Hillenbrand . The story recounts the life and racing career ofSeabiscuit , an undersized and overlookedthoroughbred race horse whose unexpected successes made him a hugely popular sensation in theUnited States near the end of theGreat Depression .The film follows the book fairly closely, albeit taking the usual "Hollywood biography" liberties with times and places here and there in order to compress the presentation. David McCullough's narration gives the film somewhat of a "documentary" feel and adds to the drama of the story. There are also many horseracing scenes in which the camera is placed among the jockeys, giving the audience a realistic sense of "riding along" with the horses.
