General Steel Industries was an American steel company founded in 1953 in Granite City, Illinois and acquired St. Louis Car Co. in 1955. It was purchased and merged into the Lukens Steel Company in 1981. [cite news

The former General Steel Industries plant at 1417 State Street in Granite City, Illinois performed work related to atomic weapons from 1953 to 1966. The building "had residual radioactive contamination until remediation in 1993".
