The broadcasting term ROT stands for Recording of Transmission. Traditionally ROT’s are usually made on videotapes as Long play can record up to 8 hours at a time. These days recordings are often made on hard disk by software, or dedicated hardware.
UK Law
By UK law every radio station must record everything it broadcasts and retain the recordings for 42 days (which happens to be very close to 1000 hours) should a complaint be made about something the station may have broadcast.
