Katherine D. Seelman is an
Associate Dean andProfessor atUniversity of Pittsburgh School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences . She was the Director of theNational Institute of Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) from 1994 to 2001. Seelman is a member of a number ofNational Science Foundation (NSF) andNational Institutes of Health (NIH) committees and has represented the United States in many international activities.Seelman earned her doctorate in public policy from
New York University in 1982, with a concentration on science, technology and public policy. Her research has been in areas of science, technology and public policy, especially telecommunications and accessibility. During her career, she has received numerous awards including theGold Key Award from theAmerican Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine , theDistinguished Public Service Award from theAmerican Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation , theOutstanding Public Service Award from theAssociation of Academic Physiatrists , anhonorary fellow in theRehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA), aNational Science Foundation Assistantship and a distinguishedSwitzer Fellowship . She has been a Switzer Scholar with theNational Rehabilitation Association and she was selected to deliver the prestigious Switzer, Colin McLaurin and Schaeffer Lectures.In 1995 she was honored by her
alma mater with induction into Hunter College Hall of Fame.Selected publications
