18 November 1752 -10 June 1832 ) was governor ofPennsylvania from 1820 to 1823. He was a member of theHiester family political dynasty . He served as a militia leader during theAmerican Revolutionary War and was briefly captured by the British.He served in Congress for 14 years and ran for governor in 1817, only to be defeated by
William Findlay . Hiester faced Findlay again in 1820 and narrowly won a single term in office. During his term, he presided over the dedication of the first state capitol building in the new capital of Harrisburg.He has a residence hall on the
