About the Crowell School of Business

Established in 1993 as the School of Business, the Crowell School of Business offers a foundational business education interweaved with strong biblical integration in all areas of study. Business is the largest undergraduate major at Biola. Crowell offers five undergraduate emphases in Accounting, Information Systems, International Business, Management, and Marketing, as well as an MBA program aimed at the working professional, with all classes offered in the evening. Biola’s “business as ministry” roots go back to 1908 when it was co-founded by oilman Lyman Stewart, who co-founded Union Oil Company and the Union Rescue in Los Angeles. Stewart thrived as president of Union Oil, growing the company from a $10 million in 1900 to $50 million in 1908.

Formally re-named in October 2005, the Crowell School of Business was named after the Crowell family of Crowell, Weedon & Co., the largest independent investment firm in the western United States [http://www.biola.edu/news/feature/newcrowellschoolofbusiness.cfm] . The Crowell family also has family roots in Lyman Stewart, Biola University co-founder and founder of Union Oil, now known as Unocal Corporation.

The new Crowell School of Business building opened in April 2007. The $14 million building totals 32,000 square feet and contains multiple sized classrooms, tiered lecture halls, and study rooms to promote continued interaction between students and faculty.
