borough inCheshire ,England . It contains the towns ofNorthwich ,Winsford andFrodsham . It takes its name fromVale Royal Abbey , formerly one of the largest in England, which was situated near the village of Whitegate. Although the abbey no longer exists, the current house on the site contains important fragments of the abbey buildings and is still known as Vale Royal. It is now a golf club and apartments.The district was created on
April 1 ,1974 under theLocal Government Act 1972 . It was a merger of Northwich and Winsfordurban district s,Northwich Rural District and part ofRuncorn Rural District . In April 2009 the district will be abolished. The current districts of Chester, Ellesmere Port & Neston and Vale Royal will be known asCheshire West and Chester .In
