Eric Carbonara

Eric Carbonara is a guitarist, composer, audio engineer and producer whose career spans over a decade of collaborations and solo work. He is originally from State College, PA, where, as a teenager, he was a member of several influential bands including Jason Likes Science, The Cameras and The Molecules. Eric currently resides just outside of Philadelphia, PA, where he runs Nada Sound Studio, a private recording studio centered around the documentation of experimental and improvised musics.

Recent years have revealed a departure from his psych/krautrock-influenced work to a kaleidoscopic realm of minimalism, electro-acoustic improvisation, free-noise guitar thrashing, the folk music of North Africa and Andalusia and Classical Hindustani music. He is most heavily influenced by the composers, Terry Riley and Steve Reich, the guitarists, Paco Peña and Manitas de Plata and the Hindustani sarod master, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.

The rare performances of his work may entail solo acoustic Andalusian influenced guitar, electric guitar/drum duets, delay saturated atonal wine glass music, electro-acoustic synthesized improvisation and/or any combination of the above.

While his work as an engineer has been noted on many recordings of recent years, including Jack Rose's "Raag Manifestos", Taurpis Tula's "Sparrows" and Arc and Sender's self-titled debut, Carbonara's own work has gone largely unnoticed. To date, he has a track on a compilation for Philadelphia's Honeymoon Music record label and a piece on a West Philadelphia compilation under the moniker of Otoño Brujo, which Eric has been known to play under from time to time.
