Drew Berry was Vice President and General Manager at WMAR-TV ABC2 in Baltimore until December 1, 2006.During his 10-year tenure, he was a member of many community organizations. Most recently he became a professor at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University in Virginia and founder of Drew Berry and associates (a news talent agency).
With over 25 years in broadcasting, the bulk of his experience has been in the country’s top 5 markets, where he has held varied positions: Executive Producer at
WABC-TV New York, Producer atWPVI-TV Philadelphia and Assistant News Director atWFAA-TV Dallas. Mr. Berry was News Director atWCAU-TV Philadelphia where he also won two consecutiveEmmy awards for Outstanding Newscasts. He has worked with other television operations inNew Orleans ,San Antonio and atCNN in Atlanta during its infancy.WMAR-TV , ABC2 News has won an Emmy for BEST NEWSCAST and the ASSOCIATED PRESS award for BEST NEWSCAST.Mr. Berry serves as a mentor to journalists across the country. He has been guest faculty with the
Poynter Institute , a journalism think tank, guest lecturer atHampton University in Virginia and a member of the inaugural class of the Scripps Leadership Institute. He is also a trustee of theScripps Howard Foundation. Since, Mr. Berry’s 1998 arrival inBaltimore he has been a strong active leader in the community. He holds positions on several local business boards including the Greater Baltimore Committee and The Maryland Business Council, theSignal 13 Foundation , which helps officers and their families in need, Associated Black Charities, Maryland Humanities Council and Good Samaritan Hospital. He is a member of theNational Association of Broadcasters and served on the program committee for the Unity Convention, which is the largest convention of minority journalists in the world.A native Texan, Drew grew up in
Dallas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree inRadio ,Television andFilm from theUniversity of Texas at Austin. Married for 25 years to his wife Brenda, he has a daughter Andrea and twin sons Adam and Andrew.ee also
